Amusement Parks - How we score them

This summer has been an amazing roller coaster ride, both literally and figuratively. We have had so much fun gallivanting at amusement parks - Holiday World, Dollywood, and Dollywood's Splash Country. We still have Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom to visit before school starts.

Each of us agrees that Holiday World in Santa Claus, Indiana is the absolute best! Our children’s minister arranges the Holiday World trip each year, so we head off from church with about 30 fellow enthusiasts. Holiday World is so clean, and free sunscreen and soft drinks are awesome! The food is reasonably priced, and the rides are great! In the water park, there are so many rides to choose from, the lines move quickly, and you have lots of fun trips and dips! Our score: A+

Dollywood’s Splash Country is a fine place to get a splashy cool down, but the crowd is so dense, it’s really uncomfortable. On our visit last weekend, the wave pool was so overcrowded that it felt like we were swimming in a bowl of Cheerios. I’m not sure why inner tubes are allowed in the wave pool, because their crowding really takes away any “pool” about it, and the waves quickly settle to ripples. Additionally, although one expects to wait in long lines to ride the biggest, fastest, coolest rides, we found fewer "attraction rides" and the lines to be over 100 minutes of waiting. The lazy river was overflowing with people afloat on inner tubes so much that it clogged at several tributaries with the green rings. Finally, nothing is free at Splash Country - you even have to pay to park in their own parking lot, and the cost is unjustifiable. Our score: C-

Stay tuned for a review of Dollywood and Six Flags coming later!
