Upward Basketball and Cheerleading

This winter, we are participating in Upward at St. Matthews Baptist Church: Shawn is coaching the Panthers (1st and 2nd grade boys), Andrew is on his team, and Abigail is cheering. http://www.smbcupward.com/

Dawn and I like the Upward program because it combines skill knowledge, devotions, and Bible memorization. The kids like Upward because it's FUN!

Last week was our first week for practice in basketball and cheerleading, and the Panthers learned the meaning behind the Upward stars. This week's skills include: triple threat, lay up, stealing, and pivoting. Abigail reviewed chants from last year and learned some jumps. Our games begin in January.

If you'd like to be an "Upward Angel," just remember to pray for the Panthers and their coaches on Thursday nights and the cheerleading squads.

The Holidays by Dawn

It's the most wonderful time of the year! My sentiments exactly! I love Christmas and spreading Christmas cheer. This year is no different. The day after Thanksgiving, I put all the "regular" dishes and dinnerware away and brought out the Christmas china. There's just something about a lemon poppy seed muffin atop a Christmas tree adorned gold-rimmed plate. Or "Tazo Joy" tea in a dainty little Christmas cup and saucer. It makes the day start out bright! http://www.tazo.com/default.asp?hasFlash=1&init==

A new tradition this year in our home is the Advent calendar. The children are so excited each morning to pop open the tiny cardboard window and be allowed to eat a bitsy piece of chocolate first thing in the morning. They are so cute! (And they're not asking me everyday "How many more days 'til Christmas?")

Massie Avenue is dotted with holiday lights on many of the houses. We even noticed that the neighbors on either side, who didn't put out lights last year, have decked the fence and doorposts with garland and lights! We're sure it's due to our influence from last year. Not that we go Griswold with lights, just a few simple strands of white tiny lights, garland, and a few red bows. Very few houses were trimmed in holiday fare last year, a trend we hope has changed for the better.

Merry Christmas!
